Hey my loves,
I know I’ve been gone for quite some time but I thought there was no better way to get back into the game than with a good ol’ fashioned favorites post! Also, I will have a new video up soon on my channel! I’ve been having computer problems since September, but they said it should be all set by tomorrow and I filmed this about 6 weeks ago!
There have been so many great product discoveries in recent months and I’m super excited to share them with you, so I’ll just jump into it.
Lumene Time Freeze Color Correcting Cream (CC Cream)
This stuff is the bomb! I’m quite certain no one says that anymore, but we’ll just disregard that fact. This is a tinted moisturizer that is more of a mid-range between drugstore and high end, as far as prices are concerned. I found mine at Walgreens for $15, thereabouts. Admittedly, I’ve really lapsed out of the “full face” style makeup I cleaved to for several years, instead leaning towards a lighter face with minimal products. This cc cream has a really lovely, natural finish, but is fantastically hydrating. It is completely undetectable on the skin, making it feel smooth and healthy despite the minimal coverage and airy-ness. Oily-skinned folks would be set with this, so long as a powder is applied to keep it from slipping.
Benefit’s Boing! Concealer
About six weeks ago, I was having some relationship troubles with my skin. Admittedly, we seem to be kind of on-and-off, but this stuff has been the bae-est of them all to get me through the rough patches. It is a little, wee-bit drying, granted, but the formula is really creamy and it lasts amazingly well on the skin. I literally dabbed some of this on to grab a coffee and go to the gym, ran over three miles, and returned home to find that the concealer was still in place on my face. I was totally floored. In conjunction with the Lumene CC Cream, my face routine is totally done. Often time, I just smear a little of this under my eyes and on some scarring and leave for the day. I look 80x more rested (Insomnia ought to be my middle name — Gwyneth Hazard Insomnia Powers :P) and more polished and I feel totally confident with only this on. Highly recommend this!
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
Speaking of skin-related topics, my skin care routine has reached a level of simplicity I once thought impossible. Two products. Literally. That’s it. Nothing to faff around with or waste time on. Two, parsimonious, straightforward, uncomplicated products that have made all the difference in the world. The Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and the Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion are my power duo. My skin is a tempestuous little beast sometimes (thanks for that genetic trait, there, Ma), but sometimes Occam’s Razor has more practical applications: the simplest solution is usually the correct one. This cleanser is milky smooth and free of dyes, fragrances, and frankly, any of the extra crap. I wanted to pair down my routine, so I switched from harsh acne cleansers to the most non-invasive thing I could find, my old favorite. In conjunction with the lotion, both of which are dirt cheap for enormous bottles, my skin has been reigned in and cleared right up. It feels supple and hydrated too, not that dry, flaky, unpleasantly tight feel you often get with chemical-rich acne regimens.
NYX Tinted Brow Mascara
Let me begin by confirming, in case it wasn’t clear, that I tend to be exceptionally lazy when it comes to makeup these days. I pull so many all-nighters for school that I can no longer keep track of them all, and sometimes, I just want easy. This product fits that bill perfectly and is actually a repurchase. The brow gel in this tube is tinted in a variety of shades according to your hair color, but it looks exceedingly natural and keeps your brows in place and looking groomed. Honestly, I don’t care that much about the thickness of my brows on a day-to-day basis. I like to look put together though, so the good hint of color that this provides while keeping those wily hairs in place is an added bonus. The gel looks really natural on the brows and avoids that obnoxious glue-like state that many similar products create. Plus it’s cost efficient, so that’s a plus too!
L’Oreal Telescopic Carbon Black Mascara
I love the look of thick, dramatic, sexy, audacious lashes — really, I do — but daily, I want something that will do a bang-up job in a coat or two before I sprint out the door. L’Oreal hit the nail on the head with this no-fuss mascara. It makes my lashes look long, separated, and luscious while making them dark, but it does little by way of volume. To be fair, that wasn’t what I was looking for when I picked this gem up, but it makes my natural lashes look beautiful, but also realistic. It’s nice for my lashes not to feel crunchy and smeared with gunk during the day too!
Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain in ‘New York Scene’
I have really been into that sultry, “just bitten” sort of lip that is just a flushed shade. No heavy, hard-to-maintain colors or thick lipsticks, just a natural pink-red. With long school days, I don’t really feel like concerning myself with whether or not I have lipstick on my teeth or if it’s wore off from the center of my lips, so a stain is the natural way to go. I know the dark red isn’t that, but I’ve been lightly dabbing it across my lips with my finger in order to get the desired effect. It isn’t drying, it lasts all day, and it looks fantastic! Gotta love it, plus the formula wore normally is also a winner, and the color selection is great!
Yardley Lavender & Rosemary Body Wash
The last product I want to touch on is a body wash from a brand I’ve never heard of but thoroughly enjoy. Yardley London’s body wash smells amazingly good, the perfect blend of both scents (Not that I’m a perfumer, but ya know, I have a nose… Does that make me half qualified?), and is really moisturizing on the skin. The formula isn’t as thick as I’d like but it feels nice and is good for shaving. The only real complaint I have is that the packaging is super flimsy, but that isn’t a huge deal, just a minor annoyance. Overall, I can’t wait to find some more products from this brand!
I hope you all have enjoyed this favorites post and I look forward to reengaging with all of you because it’s been too long and I’ve missed you! Lots more to come!
P.S. I was thinking of creating a series of posts about my thoughts on colleges and the application process so that some of my younger viewers can sort of get acquainted with it all. Let me know down in the comments if that is something you all think that you would enjoy!
