Hey lovely people,
I’ve never actually done any sort of cooking or food related blogs for you (that I can recall at least), but I thought that I’d give it a whirl! You see, I’ve seen this thing on Pinterest and fitness websites about a million times: overnight oats! So, I’m attempting to make them for myself!
The Night Before:
I grabbed a mason jar (with a lid) and got to work! I began by filling it about half way with rolled oats before adding about a cup (give or take) of the Silk Vanilla Light Almond Milk. Let me point out that I’ve never tried this stuff before, or even almond milk period come to think of it, but I was curious and decided to try it because I figured the vanilla flavor would deter me from wanting to add sugar to it. Then, I added about a heaped tablespoon of chia seeds (never tried these either but, eh, why not?), a small handful of blueberries, and some lightly salted chopped almonds. Then, I sealed it up with the lid and put it in the fridge for the night!
I’ll let you know what happens in the morning!
The Morning After (hehe):
So, good morning, my loves! I wanted to report back on my overnight oats experiment! I pulled my oats of the fridge this morning (photographed for your viewing pleasure) and fixed myself a cup of coffee. Here’ my verdict: not too shabby! The overnight oats are a little bland, but I think that if I’d done it with more fruit that might have been better. I will confess that I added a bit more almond milk and about a teaspoon of dark brown sugar, but with those two additions, I really ended up liking my breakfast.
What have you been whipping up in the kitchen? Have you tried overnight oats, or did this make you want to?
