So, I recently ventured into Sephora, as one does, to pick up a new bottle of the Purity Made Simple face cleanser from Philosphy and decided I wanted to try the Sheer Glow Foundation from NARS. I got a sample jar of it because I didn’t know if I’d like it or not and you had better believe I will test a product before dropping $45 on it.Tanya Burr regards this as her favorite foundation of all time, and I have always trusted her product recommendations with my life because she is possibly the goddess of makeup. Anyway, I brought the baby-sized badboy home and here are my thoughts after a few days of tentative testing.
Claim: A glowing, satin-finish foundation with sheer and buildable coverage.
This Sheer Glow Foundation enhances, without masking, your overall natural complexion. The weightless formula hydrates the skin while complexion brightening properties improve skin brightness, radiance, and texture, leaving skin with a luminous, sensual glow.
Suitable for normal, normal-to-dry, dry, and very dry skin types.
My Tentative First Impression:
First of all, this foundation comes in quite a range of shades and colors, which I appreciate because I am the same color as styrofoam that fell into a vat of bleach, so… The consistency of this foundation is quite liquidy and I have found that it is best applied with a brush (I have been loving using it in tandem with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush). The foundation doesn’t really have much of a scent, which is good for my fellow sensitively-skinned ladies out there. The bottle has a pump and is made of glass, but I used the equivalent of about 3/4 of a pump or so.
The foundation does take a minute to blend, which I find bearable, but for some that would be inconvenient, especially if you’re in a hurry. The finish of the foundation is, as to be expected, glowy and radiant, which is actually quite the feat due to the dryness of my skin; it made my skin look healthy and lovely without having that oily, greasy look that some other products pass off as dewy. The coverage is also quite good – the product claims to be sheerer coverage, but I would say medium to full with a very natural look to it. My skin actually looks amazing with this foundation on.
The staying power is actually impressive too; the product lasted all day (about 12 hours) on my skin with no real hitch. I did end up powdering it with a little bit of sheer loose powder to set it and prevent the lovely glow from escalating into a shiny look. Overall, I really love this foundation and I am going to purchase the full size of it in the near future!
