I have been scouring the Internet for the past week or so looking for some of the hottest trends for the holidays and the first few months of 2012. It seems to me that the Bohemian sorta style is still very popular. This is great news! Why? Because you don’t have very much work to do in order to be “in style.” I will show you several different hair styles that I feel will give you the best idea of the winter trends and tell you how to do them. I will also link videos to other beauty gurus who did tutorials on one style in particular. I hope you all enjoy!
One more bit of advice. I also suggest that you do styles in your own way, more YOU not as much me or they! Put your own spins and twists on each style and add your own flair! It could be feather extensions, cute clips, or different braids, it’s all about finding your own unique style!
Trend #1: High ponytails! I have seen these all over the red carpet! Every texture is an option! The thing they all have in common is that they all are placed on the crown off the head or higher and all have clean looking fronts. I have also seen some teasing around the top of the head for volume. It is so easy and all you need is a hair tie and a couple bobby pins!
How to do this style: If you desire, you can curl or straighten your hair before putting it up into the ponytail. I personally like to do some sort of style so that the whole thing looks put together, but that is a matter of opinion. Gather all of your hair in your hands and position it where you want it on your head. Then take a thin-tooth comb and comb the hair along the scalp to make sure it is free of any bumps or uneven areas. Repeat underneath the ponytail, so that the entire thing looks clean and sleek. Next, take your hair elastic and wrap it around you hair and pull the ponytail tight. Now take a small section of hair, maybe half an inch, and wrap it around the hair elastic to hide the hair tie. Bobby pin the end of the hair into place. That’s it!
Trend #2: Beachy waves! I love this trend! The style is so easy to pull off; you can dress it up or dress it down. It also works for all different hair lengths!
If you hair is naturally wavy/curly like mine, just part it where you like and finger-comb it and place it however you want. If your hair isn’t naturally curly or wavy, you need a scrunching product. There are either gels, creams, or sprays. Which ever one you have on hand will do just fine. Apply the product evenly throughout your hair by following the instructions. Then use you hands to scrunch the hair. Scrunch all your hair around your head for a minute or two. Let your hair dry and spray with hairspray to keep the style in place. I recommend a flexible hold hairspray, that way your hair is still bouncy and flowy. :) You could also curl your hair (it does not have to be perfect!) and then brush the curls out and apply a texturing product. The last way to get beachy waves is to braid your hair into several braids while it is damp. Sleep on the braid. When you wake up, take the hair out of the braids, comb them out with your fingers, and spray! All done!
Trend #3: Fun braids! These are so stylish and fun! It is very customizable! It is a great way to express yourself and make an outfit more girly or add a interesting edge!
Here is a tutorial for the top hairstyle from Blake Lively’s red carpet event!
Trend #4: Accessorize! Add some sparkly barrettes to a hairstyle to spice it up and add some glam! This definitely is easy and beautiful. It amps up the elegance factor!
I feel like the application of a barrette or clip is fairly straight forward. But incase you aren’t sure how to style it, I’ll explain. Take a piece of hair and lay it flat against your head, then open the clip or barrette and pin the hair to the side of your head. It’s really quite straightforward.
