I have dark circles. Bad ones. I can admit to that tragic truth, but for the last few years, I have struggled to find a concealer that will hide them because I simply refuse to hope on the Bobby Brown Creamy Concealer bandwagon – it’s the principle (okay, not really, but you get my drift). I purchased the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer (MIAREDCTC?) in hopes that it would solve all of my problems, so here are my thoughts on it after about a month of testing!
Claim: “Micro-corrector applicator + super concentrated formula instantly creates a radiant, refreshed looking eye area. Super concentrated formula with goji berry + haloxyl helps to erase the appearance of dark circles and fine lines, while visibly diminishing the appearance of puffiness around the eyes.”
Firstly, I will note that I am not a huge fan of the sponge-tipped applicator because I feel like it isn’t that hygienic, but I digress. The first time you use this product, it takes round about way too many turns to get the product out but this is a one-time phenomenon. I will say that after all the hype this product has received over the past six or so months, my first time using it was disappointing. I felt like it exaggerated the dryness and fine lines under my eyes and I’m 16! I don’t even have fine lines!
I tried it about four or five times without liking the results, so I put it aside and returned to my NYX one that I’d been working with for the past few weeks before I picked this concealer up again about a week ago and figured out how I like to use it. I only apply this from my inner most corner to about where my iris starts to cover the darkest of my circles and brighten up the under eyes. My favorite way to blend this concealer is with my ring fingers (I have the lightest shade, called ‘Fair’ if you were curious) using little patting motions to prevent putting pressure on the delicate skin there.
The coverage is actually really impressive and my dark circles, though not completely invisible, are significantly reduced, which is good. Perhaps it is better this way because you look more natural when you don’t look like you’ve stepped out of a Vogue shoot with such a flawless face that you may as well have been Photoshopped. I don’t know – personal preference. I would say this is a medium-full coverage concealer that works quite well for what it is intended for. I feel like if you had circles that were less severe than mine (I look like I got punched in the face…), yours would be completely covered.
The consistency of this concealer is really thin without being watery and I actually really love that. I forgot my normal concealer over the weekend when I was up in Colorado visiting my sister, niece, and brother-in-law, so I ended up using this concealer to cover blemishes and redness (When I say blemishes, I do mean bad ones. Plane travel is murder on my skin.) and I love it! It never really looks cakey and covers everything beautifully, which I think is due to the good coverage but thin consistency that I mentioned before. The last few days, I’ve been skipping foundation all together and just applying a few stripes of this bad boy instead because it provides the coverage I want but still looks really natural.
At A Glance:
Available At: Ulta and most drugstores
Packaging: Could be better if the sponge-tip was replaced with something cleaner…
Color Selection: There are a good range of shades for lighter skin tones, but I don’t see any for darker ones, which is quite annoying, I think.
Consistency: Thin without being watery
Staying Power: Pretty good – I may feel the need to touch up at about the eight hour mark, but for the most part, it looks lovely without a lot of extra touching up later in the day.
Bottom Line: Maybelline did a good job with this product. The coverage is nice and it isn’t cakey looking; dark circles appear significantly better with this product on and I often use it as my all-in-one concealer product! I really like this and I will likely purchase it again.
I hope you all enjoyed this review of the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer!
