I know haven’t reviewed a product in while, so I thought I would share my thoughts on a drugstore gem that has become a staple in my routine in the past few months. It’s a product from Suave Professionals that I have fallen hopelessly for to make up for the lack of human interaction in my life. Or not. I’m not a psychologist! Anyway, let me begin the review!
I was ambling through Target several months ago, like I do, and I was in search of a new shampoo and conditioner (Of course, I read like every single bottle in the entire store and then bought the same ones – Suave Almond & Shea Butter – that I just ran out of. Girl logic.) when I came across a small golden bottle of goodness, Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Heat Defense Leave-In Conditioner. I would highly suggest that their marketing team look into shorter names for products.
Claim: “Natural keratin protein in hair depletes over time leaving it unmanageable, frizzy, and harder to style. This dual-action, lightweight formula enriched with KERALOCK TECHNOLOGY (because this is obviously a thing) both infuses keratin inside the hair fiber for ultimate moisturization (I would like to point out that moisturization is not a word) and helps protect hair while heat styling. Infuses keratin & seals cuticles for advanced protection from heat damage, frizz control for up to 48 hours, smooth & manageable hair , and easy styling.”
According to the packaging, which every consumer should blindly trust NO MATTER WHAT, this product is salon proven to moisturize as well as Kérastase Resistance Cimet Thermique (BTW: Did you know Kérastase is owned by L’Oreal?). I haven’t tried the latter, so I can’t deny or verify this.
This leave-in condtioner-heat-protectant hybrid is part of Suave’s Keratin Smooth line that was released a few months ago. I haven’t tried the other products, but OH MY MERLIN I LIKE THIS STUFF! My writing is a little eccentric today, isn’t it? Oh, well. I blame the tacos I had for lunch.
This is a great product for those of us who like multi-purpose products or for those of us who don’t like to fuss too much with our hair or fiddle with products as it is both a leave-in conditioner and a heat protectant. You can apply to either damp or dry hair. I prefer to apply a small blob (about the size of a quarter) to my hair once I have towel dried it. I, personally, don’t blow dry my hair because I have naturally wavy, ringlet-y hair that ends up looking much like the way I imagine a drunk gopher would look by the time I finish drying it. I do, however, use heat tools frequently and I think that this is a really great product.
A bit about my hair so that you have a reference. It is wavy-kinda-curly, long, and medium thickness. That being said, I think that this product is very effective. I work this into the ponytail region of my hair while it is damp and I find that it doesn’t weight down my hair or make my curls limp. It leaves my hair feel soft and hydrated but not greasy or heavy. The consistency of this product is a thick, cream texture and there is a very strong scent to it. It smells like a boy. That is literally the only way I can think of to describe this to you. It has a cologne-y, musky, woodsy scent. I personally like the scent, which lingers lightly for at least a few hours.
The leave-in conditioner keeps my hair feeling silky smooth and healthy, which is great. I am not sure how much this does for tangles in my hair though. I am sure it does help some but it isn’t the Superman (I know nothing about comics, so I am basically using a blind reference.) of detanglers for those of us with particularly knotty (I’m punny, right?) locks. I think that this is also a very good heat protectant. I usually like to double up and use my TreSemme Heat Tamer Spray, but when I forget, which I do occasionally (I am still human, despite the lack of normal motor skills.), my hair still feels soft, shiny, and healthy as opposed to dry and brittle. I can especially see this product working when I straighten my hair.
At A Glance:
Available At: Target, Ulta, All Drugstores
Effectiveness (out of 10): 9 – Not super helpful with really tangled hair
Bottom Line: I really like this leave-in conditioner/heat protectant. It delivers on its claims, is accesible and inexpensive, smells great, leaves my hair feeling hydrated and happy, but not heavy, and is a Renaissance Man type of product. I would definitely recommend it!
I hope you all enjoyed this review! Let me know if you have tried this product and if so, what you thought of it! Also let me know what hair care holy grails you have found!
